Through ICT children and students will be taught how to control systems such as computers, robots, toys, tape recorders and cameras. By learning how to control these electrical devises they will discover the impact they can have on their environment. During the week all pupils will have at leased one lesson dedicated to ICT. During the lessons they will be taught the skills necessary to operate a range of equipment, and experience a variety of controlled environments. The initial skills are hierarchal and concentrate on fine motor development, cause and effect, and exploration.
The curriculum at this stage is based on Equals PMLD Scheme Levels 1-11. Pupils will be able to use the equipment in the classroom and ICT Suite as well as the Sensory Studio. Once these initial skills have been learnt ICT will continue to build on these, using the Equals SLD and QCA National Curriculum Schemes. Pupils will refine mouse and key board skills via writer pads and concept key boards. They will also use ICT as part of other lessons for recording, finding information; drafting and presenting of work etc ICT will become augment all areas of the curriculum.
Key Stage 4 will follow the scheme from Edexcel Skills for Working Life, Entry Level and if appropriate be entered for the entry Level Certificate. 16 + will use ICT as part of the moving on. The access and viewing of Social Networking sites is prohibited and access of inappropriate Web sites is restricted via the server. Any use of the internet is monitored by staff at all times.
